Assistant Winemaker – Pipers Brook Vineyard

Pipers Brook Vineyard has an exciting and challenging opportunity for a suitably qualified and experienced Assistant Winemaker. The role is based in North East Tasmania at our pioneering Pipers Brook Vineyard and Winery where we craft our premium brands which include Ninth Island, Pipers Brook and Kreglinger.

Reporting to the Chief Winemaker the ideal candidate will have sound knowledge and experience in all aspects of vinification. Joining our small and dedicated team they will be required to be dynamic and prepared to be involved in all aspects of producing our premium brands including cellar and lab work when required. This is a unique and exciting opportunity to join our young winemaking team at a time when cool climate Tasmanian wines and our iconic brands are going from strength to strength.

Job Requirements
Key Skills/Experience:

  • A relevant tertiary degree in winemaking/oenology
  • Experience in cool climate vinification and traditional method sparkling production highly regarded
  • Ability to manage and supervise production in the winery
  • Exceptional time management skills and ability to think on your feet
  • Experienced and competent in sensory evaluation
  • Winery management software experience
  • General cellar and lab skills are also essential
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Self-motivated and enthusiastic

Key Responsibilities:

  • Management of cellar team and work schedules where required
  • Managing lab analysis requirements
  • Fulfilling production requirements in a timely & efficient manner
  • Ensuring delivery of quality wine production consistent with house style and standards
  • Maintaining impeccable production and QA records
  • Ensuring a high level of health and safety protocols are being followed and helping to constantly improve standards within the workplace
  • Training casual/cellar staff as required
  • There will also be a level of customer interface giving tours of the facility and hosting tastings and events
  • The successful applicant will be required to work as part of a dynamic team and be prepared to work shifts and overtime as required
